Less is more...
At least in some cases. Geodatics provides a tailor-made advice on the most effective type and amount of fertilizer to be used by farmers. In some cases this means: less is more. Crops cultivated on poor or exhausted soils, caused by a long period of under-fertilization, or in areas of low rainfall require less fertilizer than commonly suggested. Poor soils cannot accommodate large amounts of nutrients, no matter how much fertilizer is applied. First the basic fertility of the plot needs to be restored again. Farmers can buy the necessary fertilizers on credit via sister company Agrics.
Part of the Geodatics service provided is a training on the application of fertilizer. Local field workers explain how low dosages can be applied using small scoops.
Besides the advice much attention is given to demonstration plots where farmers can be instructed on fertilizer application technics. Geodatics runs a large number of demonstration plots that are easily accessible to the farmers. In the photo below farmers learn to sow and apply fertilizer in lines.
